a tribute to mike Thursday, August 05, 2004 today was the last day of work in citi for a dear friend of mine, mike. such a loss, but such is life. now off he goes to pursue his dreams!i only got to know this guy since january of this year. new at the bank, he was assigned to a project at the office that got us to working together. we got along very well (i think...), despite his really terrible sense of humor, and i'd like to think that we became good friends. schmuck hasn't met him, but knows him as the man with the pathetic 3-year theory. this was prior to my engagement, and mike told me about his theory. It goes like this: if a man and a woman have been together for more than 3 years and they are not yet making plans of getting married soon, then either the man or the woman isn't really interested in getting married at all. great, so that got me thinking. luckily (???), schmuck proposed a few weeks later. whew! it doesn't stop there though. this guy has other pathetic theories up his sleeve. like the theory that if a man were to go out with a woman (other than his girlfriend), as long as it is in a different continent, then it doesn't qualify as cheating. oooookay.... but hey, give the guy's brains some credit. you don't get a scholarship into stanford without having quite a good number of functioning brain cells, right? yep, he is taking his masters in stanford. on a scholarship too! you just gotta admire this guy! on the outside, he's not lacking in the looks department either. girls (and boys...) from other departments (or even his own department...) have been known to swoon in his presence. he's quite aware of it too, which of course, just serves to heighten his arrogance and conceit. on the inside however, mike is all soft and mushy like a marshmallow. he's like a little boy. he sometimes talks like a little boy. so endearing! so sweet! plus, this guy is totally head over heels in love with his pretty girlfriend! so how can you not like him? mike -- whether you're just in your apartment watching before sunrise on dvd, or ogling the girls on campus, or running the marathon, or hiking some mountain, or checking out lego in amazon.com....know that you will be missed terribly. verdana font will never be the same again. mentos now even takes on a new meaning. i wasn't able to say my goodbyes properly, so i dedicate this blog post to you. good luck be good play nice study hard love well if life throws you a lemon, just say, "ICHOKAY!" keep in touch, stanford boy! i'll reserve a seat for you in our wedding... ~ catty |
